Pros
Dave Hughes is a great fishing writer. He approaches the topic with vast experience. He recommends patterns for a minimal box and under what circumstances they should be used and goes on to describe more specific patterns that might be useful in certain geographies or situations. The patterns and tying instructions are well done and each pattern type has a short description on how to fish the pattern. If I could only pick 1 pattern book to have in my collection, this would be it.
Cons A 96 page book limits the # of pattern families that can be presented. Dave does a great job with the selections he has made. Some may find the exclusion of common "new" patterns like the Copper John to be an oversight, but there are more than enough other patterns here to compensate.

Pros
Great little book of easy patterns that will catch not only trout but bluegill and other warmwater fish as well. Check you local 1/2 Price Books and see if they have it (mine has had many in the past year). I had mine rebound with a coil binding and now it is one of my "go to" books when I need patterns.
Cons Great LITTLE book. Wish it was bigger with more patterns.

Pros
I bought this book by happy accident (I didn't have a clue what I wanted other than a 'fly tying book of some sort') and am very fortunate to have struck gold on the first try. I have other books by Talleur and Rosenhauer but this one is my go-to.
Cons This is not really a con at all, but here goes: It's the perfect size for a fly tying book (after all, we all know in our secret heart that we only really need 10 trout patterns, maxium) but it's a little bit small for its secondary purpose: A good book to simply read.
