Crocheted Crawdad
by Duane Doty

This is a pattern that I worked on for a few years before it finally came out the way I like it.

It uses a technique called crocheting or weaving, and I will go through step-by-step how to do this.

Tools needed

Left to right: Hackle Pliers, Whip Finisher, Hook, Bodkin, Scissors, Bobbin and Vice.

Materials

.020 Lead Wire, Mustad 37160 Size 14 hooks; small Mono eyes.

Embroidery Floss ("cross stitching thread"), from WalMart.  About 24 cents each.  Need 2 colors.

Partridge Feathers.

Hackle.

Moose Mane.

Materials list

Mustad 37160, Size 14 hook.

.020 Lead wire.

Small Mono eyes.

2 colors cross-stitching thread (dark and light.)

Partridge feathers.

Hackle.

Moose Mane.

Size 6 Black fly-tying thread.

STEP 1

Place hook at a downward angle.

STEP 2

Attach 4-5 strands Moose mane.

STEP 3

Get 12-18 inches of light and dark cross-stitch thread.

Each thread has 6 strands.

Separate three strands from each color.

Attach 3 dark strands to hook at same place moose mane is attached.

STEP 4

Get small mono eye.

Attach to underside of hook (hackle pliers are helpful.)
