Sparrow
by John Ridderbos

Materials You Will Need

Hook: Mustad 9672 #10
Tail: Marabou from bottom of a Pheasant rump feather
Body: Olive Rabbit dubbing
Hackle: Pheasant rump feather (I prefer the ones with the iridescent blue silver feather)
Head:  Philoplume feather (the skinny feather found at the base of the rump feathers)

Tying Instructions

Step 1: Add 5 turns of .020 lead wire for weight, pretty much in the middle of the shank.

Step2: Tie in the tail material.

Step 3: Dub a nice tapered body with the rabbit fur.

Step 4: Tie in a Pheasant rump feather.  Folding it as we did with the Black Gnat, fold it wet fly style.  Wrap the hackle.

Step 5: Tie in the philoplume feather.  Form a dubbing loop with the thread.  Trap the philoplume in the dubbing loop; spin the dubbing loop until you get nice chenille formed with the philoplume.

Step 6: Wrap the philoplume, and form a nice bushy head. Tie off and whip finish.
