All three titles are available directly from Don.

Many of Don’s classic wet flies, streamers, and traditional drys were featured in Art of Angling Journal, published by Complete Sportsman. Hundreds of Don’s flies are also published on the Internet at www.rareandunusual.com/troutwetflies.htm

Married over 33 years; wife Lou Anne was deceased on February 22, 2007. Two daughters: Kim - 29, and Lyneah - 27. Don and his wife sang in a gospel quartet called the Agape Singers for 27 years and made one recording that was recently converted into a CD.

Interestingly enough, as life has progressed, Don made contact with a childhood sweetheart through a newspaper review about a fly tying class he taught at The Evening Rise Fly Shop in Lancaster County, PA, in March 2006. Jann Breon Deibert of Mountville, PA, and Don Bastian were both Williamsport natives, living one block away from each other. She and Don were in homeroom together through 5th grade at Henry Clay Elementary School. Even as children there was more than just friendship between them. Jann’s family moved away in January 1964 and there was no contact between them until an article by the local sportswriter reviewing Don’s fly tying class appeared in the Lancaster Sunday News. Her father phoned Jann and informed her, “Hey, your old boyfriend is in the paper.” Jann contacted the writer for information and sent Don an e-mail. Initial contact at the time led to them communicating via e-mail as they recalled old times and childhood memories.

Following the illness and passing of his wife, Jann and Don renewed their acquaintance and began a relationship that progressed through e-mail, telephone, personal visits, and during last summer they fell in love. They were engaged over the holidays in December 2007. A June 14, 2008 sentimental wedding ceremony is being planned in Williamsport’s Historic Residential District on the spacious Victorian front porch at Don’s former childhood home where Jann and Don spent time together as care-free children over forty years ago.
